Scotlands secret garden has been saved
Greenhouse enthusiasts might be interested to know that the future of the coastal garden of Arduaine in Scotland has been secured following a campaign to save it, which managed to raise over £2 million.
The garden near Oban, popularly known as the secret garden because if its secluded position, was identified as one of 11 properties for closure under controversial cost-cutting measures by the National Trust two years ago.
Concerned greenhouse enthusiasts set up a campaign, which grew to over 200 people from around the world to try and convince the Trust to reverse its decision.
"The prospects for Arduaine Garden are rosy, and we'll be applying the lessons we've learned here to many of our other places over the next five years," chairman of the National Trust for Scotland Sir Kenneth Calman said.
Arduaine garden is home to a wide variety of plants such as rhododendrons, azaleas, magnolias, Blue Tibetan poppies and giant Himalayan lilies.
