Cold Frames Collection Greenhouse enthusiasts might be advised to put a green roof over the top of their sheds or greenhouses in the garden, as they have a number of benefits to wildlife in and around people's patches, it has been claimed.

According to Gardeners' World's Kate Bradbury, people that add a green roof on top of their shed or greenhouses can create a wildlife oasis and provide a refuge for animals such as bees and butterflies in major cities.

Ms Bradbury, writing in her blog, stated that not only would the wildlife benefits of having a green roof be plentiful, but it could also ease the pressure on sewage systems as water can be absorbed more easily.

"Building a green roof is a little more complicated than making a raised bed, as you need to consider drainage issues and the additional weight. But it can be done without buying expensive kits," she continued.

Last month, Gardeners' World's Richard Jones suggested that gardens should have more brown patches so as to encourage more wildlife to thrive.ADNFCR-1495-ID-801217717-ADNFCR
