Minister heaps praise on community gardeners
Greenhouse enthusiasts might be interested to know that environment and sustainable development minister John Griffiths has heaped praise on a number of children that helped planting a number of trees on a local housing estate.
Mr Griffiths thanked the group of youngsters after they helped create a woodland area in Wrexham, which he opened earlier this month.
The area is to be the fifth Plant! site in Wales, which is a Welsh government project aimed at creating sustainable environments and tackling climate change by planting a tree for every child born or adopted in the country.
"By giving children and young people a sense of ownership of the natural environment and encouraging them and their families to enjoy the outdoors, we can build a better future for us all," he added.
The idea for the scheme originally came from 11-year-old Cardiff schoolgirl Natalie Vaughan who wrote to her assembly member stating it would be good for the environment. It has been in action since January 1st 2008.
