Shed Collection Greenhouse enthusiasts in Kensington are hoping for a funding boost of £6,000 after entering into the national NatWest Community Force scheme, which invites people to vote for their favourite gardening project online.

The project is run by volunteers, who help elderly people maintain a garden, grow their own food and encourage them to recycle.

A spokesperson for the charity, Be Interested In Portobello Road, said it has big plans for the future and wants to start selling its own produce locally and holding education workshops.

"All the social groups in the area will be able to volunteer on the site and add their slant, so encouraging integration through food and green issues," they told the London Informer.

If they win the area competition and the £6,000, the charity plans to invest in more plants, seeds, compost and a small greenhouse.

Research from horticulture charity Thrive suggested gardening can often have a positive effect on the physical and mental wellbeing of people.ADNFCR-1495-ID-800751720-ADNFCR
