Glasshouses The number of greenhouse users in the UK continues to increase as more and more people take to growing their fruit and vegetables, according to Alex Euro Trading.

A spokesman for the company said that the main benefit of growing your own vegetables in a garden is the taste that sometimes gets lost in produce that is imported from overseas.

The spokesman suggested that first-time gardeners should start by growing beans and onions to get a taste for tending to a patch as they are boxed and easy to plant.

When asked if the popularity of growing your own vegetables is still increasing the spokesman said: "Definitely. It has been going on for four or five years now. It started with rhubarb plants but now there are more and more things that people would like to grow themselves."

According to research from HSBC last month, 33 per cent of homeowners in the UK now use their gardens to grow fruit and vegetables.ADNFCR-1495-ID-800742058-ADNFCR
