Cold Frames Collection Greenhouse enthusiasts in Yorkshire have jumped on the gardening bandwagon after this year's Yorkshire in Bloom, according to the City of York Council.

The awards ceremony for the event was held in Harrogate last night and the according to the spokesman, people throughout the city have been contributing all summer which demonstrates the love they have for the city.

"You will find flowers everywhere – from single flowerpots to more expansive displays in local retail centres, business parks, shopping areas, public houses, community centres, residential areas, schools, parks and gardens, yards and windowsills," the spokesman added.

Among the winners was Middlethorpe Hall's head gardener David Barker, who received the Best in Category award from TV presenter and gardener Martin Fish.

Mr Barker won the award for the second year running, which director and general manager of the hotel Lionel Chatard said was testament to his commitment and passion for the job.
