Greenhouse growers Thanet Earth makes its first profit
Thanet Earth, the specialist greenhouse grower, has turned a profit for the first time having made losses of more than £4 million in the previous two years.
Parent Company of Thanet Earth Marketing, the Fresca group, said that its site, which grows cucumbers, tomatoes and peppers in high-tech greenhouses, made a pre-tax profit of just under £1 million for the last tax year.
Executive chairman of Fresca Christopher Mack told the Kent News that such a huge turnaround from loss to profit was a great achievement and it should be applauded.
Senior administrator at Thanet Earth Marketing Edwina Kilford added: "Since the first glasshouse was erected three years ago, it is remarkable how quickly the business has developed and moved forwards."
Thanet Earth has also shown an increase in turnover of 19.7 per cent to £64m during the last tax year.
Currently with three greenhouses constructed, Thanet Earth is the largest greenhouse complex in the UK and hopes to add a further four greenhouses.
