Pensioner creates sensory garden at care home
Greenhouse and gardening enthusiast Roy Clarke has put his many years of gardening experience to good use by creating a sensory garden in his Dales care home.
Mr Clarke was forced to leave behind his allotment after moving to the care home in Ivanbrook, Derbyshire, 16 months following a deterioration in his health, but as soon as he moved in he asked to tend the garden in order to keep his green fingers busy.
His daughter-in-law Claire Bunting told Bakewell Today everyone at the home has really appreciated the work that Mr Clarke has put in to the garden.
"He has always had his own allotment and grown his own vegetables then through ill health he moved to Ivanbrook and asked if he could look after their garden," she added.
Manager at Ivanbrook Jason Treasure said that the home had bought Mr Clarke a shed to keep his gardening equipment in.
According to the Examiner, a group of pensioners at the Lyn Royd Grange retirement community in Huddersfield are taking part in a grow-your-own gardening project in a bid to eat more healthily.
