Planthouses Greenhouse enthusiasts will be interested to hear that a garden situated on St Quintin Avenue, London, has helped inspire a community feeling among the locals who have earned recognition for its produce.

The garden sits on the site of a disused tennis court which was run by the NHS until 2009 when it was leased to the council for use by the community as a kitchen garden.

In its first flowering season, the garden won second prize in the community garden category of London in Bloom.

Chairman of the community kitchen garden Anna Cassar told the Kensington and Chelsea Informer that the garden had turned into much more than just a place to grow produce.

"We run community events every so often, which helps, but a lot of people come here for the community feel. There are real friendships growing between people who might not otherwise have met," she added.

London in Bloom is one of 17 regional campaigns across the UK that makes up Britain in Bloom - Europe's largest horticultural iniative.ADNFCR-1495-ID-800729585-ADNFCR
