Bankers volunteer to help clear sick pensioners garden
People thinking of investing in greenhouses will be heartened to hear about six members of Barclays bank who volunteered to help clear an ill pensioner's garden.
Their volunteering was part of the Garden Buddy scheme at the North Warwickshire Volunteer Centre, which uses volunteers to help maintain the gardens of the sick, elderly or disabled in the area.
Training consultant Jane Bailey told the Coventry Telegraph that the task was something the whole team was relishing as it was a really worthwhile cause.
"I'm really grateful. My garden is used by other people, so it was important that it got cleared to stop people tripping over and children getting scratched by the prickly plants," 70-year-old Colin Brooks, whose garden was cleared, added.
Martin Horner, from the Volunteer Centre said the team had done a great job.
These workers are not the only ones to swap their day jobs and volunteer. Workers from North Yorkshire law firm Barclays and Pinsent Masons recently helped transform a garden area at the Nell Bank centre, which offers day and residential outdoor programmes.
