Bespoke Greenhouses Those with a passion for greenhouses in the Ealing area were left unhappy after councillors announced plans that could see residents paying an annual charge to have their grass cuttings and other garden waste collected.

Council plans also include changing the waste collection from a weekly service to fortnightly.

The heavy duty sacks that are currently used will be replaced with wheelie bins - which residents will pay a subscription for - or biodegradable bags, which would cost between £20 and £25.

Deputy chairman of the Wood End Residents Association, Leigh Courtnell, said that the £30-£40 charge is a burden that residents don't need in the current economic climate.

"Some are frail and wheeling a heavy bin around at the end of the two weeks may be impossible. To pay an annual charge doesn't seem fair as nothing grows in the winter," he told the Ealing Gazette.

According to the Telegraph, being charged for garden waste collection is up to the discretion of each council with some charging and others not.ADNFCR-1495-ID-800722834-ADNFCR
