Planthouses People thinking of investing in greenhouses could be inspired to share with a neighbour after seeing gardeners in Brighton encouraged to collaborate with friends on vegetable patches in a bid to save money.

The Grow Your Neighbour's Own scheme - set up in Brighton and Hove Albion - pairs up gardeners who currently have nowhere to grow their own food with garden or allotment owners who have too much space.

Shared gardener Eleanor Gloster told the Guardian that she was delighted with the way her match-up has worked out and said that the scheme was a good way to save some money.

"I didn't know much about gardening but I did a lot of research online and picked it up as I went along. Things like salad leaves and sweetcorn can be quite expensive," she added.

Initially the patch was over grown but with the help of Mrs Gloster and two other gardeners it has been transformed and now it produces items such as peas, carrots, beans, radishes, beetroot, potatoes and rocket.ADNFCR-1495-ID-800720259-ADNFCR
