Planthouses The Ashington Gardens Competition has inspired the local council to plant flowers along the streets of the town, greenhouse enthusiasts might be interested to hear.

Reintroduced last year, the competition had twice as many entries this time around, so the judging had to be completed over two days.

Mayor John McCormack told the Ashington Journal that he was delighted with the effort that all the residents put into making their own gardens look colourful, which in turn improved the local environment.

"We've already taken steps to improve the outlook in the town centre with plants along Station Bridge and many people have commented how nice it is to see such a splash of colour," he added.

Town Clerk Mike Slaughter said that with such interest in the competition, the town council were looking into the possibility of having some entries put forward for the Northumbria in Bloom competition which is held annually in August.ADNFCR-1495-ID-800709297-ADNFCR
