Greenhouse and conservatory glass needs to be right
Gardeners are being told that they must have the correct glass in their greenhouses or conservatories in order to keep the interior warmer during the winter months.
Winter is typically a time in which some plants and vegetables struggle to grow in the cold and as such, maintenance is vital for keeping a healthy greenhouse.
"The use of energy-efficient insulating glass units, which include low emissivity glass, will maintain the temperature inside during cooler periods of the year," deputy chief executive officer for the Glass and Glazing Federation Giles Wilson said.
Writing in the Ecologist recently, BBC gardening expert Pippa Greenwood said grouping plant pots closer together can help keep them warm and protect them from the cold.
She urged gardeners to move plants indoors - or into a greenhouse - over the winter where possible to avoid plants being destroyed.
The Ecologist, founded in 1970, claims to be the world's leading environmental affairs magazine covering issues such as globalisation and industrial agriculture.
