Cold Frames Collection The opening of Liverpool's Festival Gardens has been rescheduled for September, greenhouse enthusiasts may be interested to hear.

Work to renovate the site that is now owned by Langtree began in February 2010 and had been expected to be finished this month.

However, the public will have to wait an additional two months before they run the rule over the new plants and trees that have been installed as part of the £3.7 million upgrade, as the contractor doing the work has gone bust.

It is understood that Mayfield Construction was on the brink of completing the job before it was forced to call in administrators earlier this month.

Langtree managing director John Downes said he was saddened by the news of Mayfield's demise.

"Good people have lost their jobs, the opening date for the gardens will unfortunately be delayed," he commented.

Gardening appears to be big business across the UK at the moment, as recent statistics released by HSBC showed green-fingered Britons shell out £7.7 billion each year on the upkeep of their outdoor areas.ADNFCR-1495-ID-800628060-ADNFCR
