Planthouses Greenhouse enthusiasts can play an active role in reinvigorating the population of bees and other pollinating insects, it has been claimed.

Dr Roger Williams, head of science at the Royal Horticultural Society, suggested these types of creatures are dwindling in number, especially in urban areas.

However, by planting the right varieties in gardens, balconies and window boxes, he stated, individuals can make a big difference.

"In gardens you tend to have this great diversity of different plants that are often flowering at different times of year - from an insect's point of view there's potential for food sources for quite a long period of time," he added.

Selecting the right kind of plants can not only make a garden look great, it can make a big difference to the population of these valuable insects, the expert concluded.ADNFCR-1495-ID-800591069-ADNFCR
