Grow berries, expert recommends
Greenhouse and gardening enthusiasts may be interested to hear the opinion of one expert who says people should stop paying premium prices for berries and grow their own.
In an article for the Daily Telegraph, Martin Cox revealed planting the fruits now should result in punnets of fresh produce by the summer.
Even though they will look scrawny at this time of year, he continued, by spring they will burst into life, "ready to reward you with masses of jewel-like fruit that look great and taste far better than anything you've ever bought".
Mr Cox went on to say that blueberries are one of the best varieties to try as well as being extremely easy to look after.
Gooseberries and currants are also named, with blackcurrants, whitecurrants and redcurrants "particularly sought-after by foodies", according to the author.
Finally, he suggested goji berries and aroina berries as two of the more adventurous options.
Writing in the Daily Mail, Nigel Colborn recently suggested gardeners should explore the world of online horticulture discussion boards to pick up tips.
