Newtown residents make greenhouse appeal
Newtown Area Residents Association has appealed to the local population to donate old greenhouses and polytunnels to increase their chances of winning at this year's Trowbridge in Bloom.
In tandem with Trowbridge residential home the Old Rectory, the group is asking for anyone with unwanted equipment to come forward, with everything collected earmarked for the organisation's allotments, the Wiltshire Times reports.
Association chairman Sharon Draper said they want old greenhouses to allow them to grow flowers for this year's contest and those in the future.
"We want to become more self-sufficient this year rather than going around asking for plants and grants to buy them," she commented.
Every item donated will be available for use by residents in the local community at the Old Rectory allotments.
Gardeners should plant flowers such as begonias, lobelias, salvias and pelargoniums in a warm greenhouse at the start of the year for best results in spring, the Shropshire Star reported recently.
