Writing for the Royal Horticultural Society, author Graham Rice said the plant is back in fashion in the UK after several decades "in the doldrums".

Grown extensively in the 1950s and 60s, daylilies decreased in popularity when they failed to perform in the British climate, even though they remained the most popular perennial in the US, Mr Rice explained.

Now, thanks to the UK's hotter summers, he continued, the flowers are thriving again.

The expert added that Vanilla Fluff is the one to watch out for.

"Winner of three awards in the USA, Vanilla Fluff has proven one of the best double flowered daylilies for British conditions, never seems to revert to single flowers and keeps on blooming until well into the autumn," he commented.

Winter gardens can be enlivened by the addition of the Tibetan Cherry, Graham Porter wrote in the Huddersfield Daily Examiner recently.ADNFCR-1495-ID-800349651-ADNFCR
