Cold Frames Collection Garden and greenhouse owners are reverting back to trends not seen since the 1970s and '80s, it has been claimed.

The Society of Garden Designers noted that growers may be reacting to the financial downturn by harking back to an earlier era.

Some old classics have been reappearing since gardeners started leaning towards 1970s and '80s retro trends, noted spokesman Thomas Hoblyn.

He explained that wallflowers have been missing from British gardens for years as they were long considered relics of a past age.

However, these, along with a number of other traditional plants and techniques, have been returning to prominence lately and are likely to continue to do so for the foreseeable future.

"Chrysanthemums used to be considered really tacky, but now they are everywhere this winter," he added.

Recent statistics from Greenfingers.com show that the garden and greenhouse supplies retailer has enjoyed a nine per cent year-on-year hike in sales.ADNFCR-1495-ID-800221050-ADNFCR
