Glasshouses Schools in the north-west of England will soon benefit from the help of a new regional campaign for school gardening advisor.

Andy Cannell has been appointed by the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) after it struck a three-year deal for funding with Manchester airport.

It makes him the fourth person to take up such a role nationwide after others were appointed to posts in Yorkshire and Humber, the east and Greater London.

He will be responsible for helping schools pass on garden and greenhouse knowledge to primary-age pupils.

"The regional advisors give schools the support they need to make the most of their resources, space and skills, and to develop a support network of families and engage the local community," said RHS director of science and learning Simon Thornton Wood.

It is necessary for the RHS to integrate itself with schools and the community to help keep Britain a knowledgeable nation when it comes to horticulture, the expert added.

Meanwhile, RHS Garden Rosemoor is saying goodbye to curator Chris Bailes after 22 years of service.ADNFCR-1495-ID-800159201-ADNFCR
