Cold Frames Collection The London Autumn Harvest Show is set to run on October 5th and 6th and the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) has been talking to Pennard Plants expert Chris Smith.

He explained that the team is set to put on a special display for visitors, giving the chance to see them in action and pick up hints and tips from the specialists.

As well as apple pruning demonstrations and training, guests will be invited to taste a number of different varieties, including those used to make cider.

Mr Smith noted that the firm has been exhibiting at RHS shows for years and noted that he enjoys the relaxed atmosphere at smaller shows, such as the Autumn Harvest event.

The expert advised garden and greenhouse enthusiasts to use the autumn months to plant bare-root trees of apples, plums and pears.

He said: "The ground should be prepared with plenty of organic matter (not manure) and a handful of bone meal. Plant the tree at the same level as in the nursery and stake it."

Visitors to the Autumn Harvest Show will also be able to check out displays from the 2010 RHS Chelsea Flower Show gold medal winners.ADNFCR-1495-ID-800074263-ADNFCR
