Planthouses Garden and greenhouse enthusiasts are continuing to grow their own fruit and vegetables in spite of predictions that the trend would die out this year.

This is according to Amateur Gardening Magazine, which suggested that the desire to produce fresh food is as strong as ever.

Experts had dismissed the passion as a phase but editor Kris Collins said that it is much more than that and explained that the hobby continues to attract new growers.

"They think that the popularity will wane over the next year or so and that it will go back to more formal gardening and people will go back to buying their vegetables from the shops but I don't believe that," he explained.

Mr Collins also noted that a new trend has emerged for sustainable and wildlife gardening, with pond owners now focusing on attracting animals with their water feature.

Recent figures from MORE TH>N show that there has been a resurgence in the popularity of garden gnomes, driven mainly by 18 to 24-year-olds.ADNFCR-1495-ID-800051049-ADNFCR
