Bespoke Greenhouses Garden and greenhouse enthusiasts have been encouraged to keep an eye on their plants hydration levels during August.

According to the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS), this is one of the hottest months of the year and can be tough on flora.

Even gardeners living in areas that have had heavy rainfall should be aware that much of this will run off, meaning that watering is still important.

The heat also means that plants in greenhouses and containers are especially susceptible to dehydration.

Other tasks also require attention during August, including the regular deadheading of flowers and the collection of seeds from favourite plants.

Soil should be fed with green manures and vegetables should be harvested as and when they are ready, the RHS added.

Wisteria and restricted fruit plants should also be given a summer pruning around now.

Meanwhile, the RHS Garden Harlow Carr has been nominated for two separate tourism and sustainability awards.ADNFCR-1495-ID-800019184-ADNFCR
