Scholarship handed to garden and greenhouse fan
A young grower from Leeds is set to spend the next year picking up garden and greenhouse tips from experts at Great Dixter.
The Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) reported that James Horner, who normally plies his trade as a gardener at Lotherton Hall Bird Garden, will receive a years worth of tuition in growing a healthy green space.
Named after the former owner of Great Dixter, the Christopher Lloyd project is aimed at educating young gardeners.
It mixes a combination of traditional and contemporary techniques and will school Mr Horner and those who come after him in the fields of garden craft and plantsmanship.
The programme is run by English Heritage through its Historic and Botanic Garden Bursary Scheme.
In other news, the RHS has revealed that there is increasing demand from Brits wishing to grow their own fruit and veg, with many allotments now having waiting lists.
