Cold Frames Collection Garden and greenhouse enthusiasts in London will soon be able to check out one of the worlds most important camellia collections.

According to the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS), Camellia House in Chiswick Park will reopen this month after a two-year renovation project.

Funded by English Heritage, the scheme saw the greenhouses wood and glass replaced and many of its features restored.

The site had almost been demolished in the 1980s until a group of volunteers helped save it and began identifying its collection of camellias and other plants.

The attraction houses one of the worlds rarest plants in the Camellia japonica Middlemists Red and is home to a collection first started by the sixth Duke of Devonshire, for whom the structure was built in 1813.

In other news, the RHS recently revealed that a Warwickshire castle is to be renovated and that amateur garden designers are being sought for their ideas on what to do with the grounds.ADNFCR-1495-ID-19855988-ADNFCR
