Planthouses The premier garden and greenhouse organisation in the UK has wasted no time in filling a position it created just last week.

The Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) has appointed Jim Gardiner to the role of director of horticulture.

President Giles Coode-Adams explained that his experience and widespread reputation would be a great help for Mr Gardiner when performing his new duties.

He has previously worked for four decades in the garden and greenhouse industry, spending 22 years as a curator for the RHS.

"His appointment to this new post reflects the fact that horticultural excellence sits at the heart of the societys mission to inspire everyone to garden," Mr Coode-Adams said.

The president added that the new director of horticulture enjoys a sterling reputation both in the UK and internationally.

Mr Gardiner admitted that he is delighted to have been chosen and that he is looking forward to passing on his considerable knowledge to colleagues in the industry.

In other news, the RHS recently reported on a project to turn urban wasteland into forests.ADNFCR-1495-ID-19782204-ADNFCR
