Planthouses The Royal Horticultural Society has supplied greenhouse owners with advice for the month of May.

With temperatures creeping up around the country ahead of summer, it is important that greenhouse owners alter their activities.

According to the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS), now is a good time to start thinking about heat regulation.

This can be done by opening vents and doors on hot days, closing blinds or applying shade paint to the outside of the glass.

Plants growing indoors may also need extra room in summer, as the heat can boost their size quickly.

Meanwhile, bedding plants started early under glass should not be simply transplanted into the soil outside.

Instead, the RHS suggests a gradual introduction process, slowly increasing their exposure to the outside world.

The specimens should be taken outside during the hottest part of the day at first, with their time outdoors increased in steady increments until they are ready to be put in the ground.

In other news, the RHS was celebrating recently after its Garden Wisley site received a major tourism award.ADNFCR-1495-ID-19774088-ADNFCR
