Garden upgrade soon to be finished
The Royal Horticultural Societys (RHS) Garden Harlow Carr has almost completed its eco-friendly learning centre.
According to the Yorkshire Post, the Harrogate-based garden and greenhouse attraction will soon be able to put its new facility to good use, just in time for the summer season.
Said to be one of the greenest buildings in the UK, the centre features wool-insulated walls, automatic windows and lights and a host of other energy-saving features.
Furthermore, its electric power will be generated by a small turbine, with the excess being sold to the national grid.
The garden site opted to invest in the new building after deciding its current classroom facilities were too small, RHS education officer Debbie Hanslip told the newspaper.
"We have wanted a brand new centre for a long time, but its hard to believe that we are so close to actually moving in," she explained.
Ms Hanslip added that learners will also benefit from a large amount of glazing, allowing them to enjoy beautiful views while they develop their knowledge.
The RHS is preparing for a busy summer, with events such as the Chelsea Flower Show and the Britain in Bloom contest lined up.
