Garden site awarded upgraded status
A Buckinghamshire garden and greenhouse attraction has been re-evaluated and awarded an upgraded status.
According to the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS), the Stoke Poges Memorial Gardens is now listed as Grade I by English Heritage after the body decided that it merited the change.
The site consists of 140 informal family gardens surrounding a main formal area, which features rills, pergolas, rose parterres and colonnades.
It is the work of renowned landscape architect Edward White, who also designed the RHS rock garden at its famous Garden Wisley before becoming a memorial garden specialist.
English Heritage elected to change the attractions status after deciding that it represents a unique example of a remembrance garden designed to the highest standards.
Meanwhile, RHS Garden Wisley is offering a romantic three-course St Valentines Day dinner in its Conservatory Dining Room on Saturday February 13th.
