Yorkshire town nominated for top RHS award
The town of Wetherby has once again been picked to represent Yorkshire in this years Britain in Bloom competition.
The 2010 event, which is held each year by the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS), is due to begin in August.
However, the competitors have already been announced, giving gardeners in Wetherby, as well as their rivals in Halstead, the City of London, Douglas, Cupar and St Savious on Jersey, the chance to start thinking about filling their greenhouses and stocking their beds for the judges.
Welcoming the nomination, Wetherby in Bloom chairman Geoff Humble told the Wetherby News: "I am confident we can meet all the criteria required by the judges, particularly the community participation aspect because Wetherby in Bloom attracts such terrific support from so many people and groups around the town."
The Yorkshire town won gold in the 1998 Britain in Bloom competition, with a silver medal following just four years later.
At the same time, however, the Leicester Mercury has reported that spending cuts planned by the east midlands citys council mean it will not be competing in the Britain in Bloom competition in the foreseeable future.
