Cold Frames Collection This Saturday (October 31st) will see people all over the UK and in other parts of the world celebrate Halloween.

The festival dates back to ancient Celtic beliefs that the changing of summer to winter or light to dark thinned the gap between this world and the next.

It was thought that this allowed spirits to pass between the two, which eventually led to people dressing as ghosts and ghouls.

The Jack-o-Lantern pumpkin torch has become synonymous with the holiday and kids around the country will this week be busy carving scary faces on theirs.

The Guardian has recognised that some garden and greenhouse enthusiasts may wish to grow their own pumpkins in preparation for next year and has provided a list of seeds fit for purpose.

The Cheyenne Bush Pumpkin should provide both carvability and good flavour while the Blue Banana from Real Seeds should provide optimum taste, the newspaper revealed.

It added that Seeds of Italys Marina Di Chiogia variety could provide a fruit that stands out from the rest, due to its puckered olive-green skin.

The newspaper noted that shop-bought versions can often taste watery and bland and suggested that growing one of the above might make Halloween 2010 that bit more special.ADNFCR-1495-ID-19433024-ADNFCR
