Greenhouse and gardening skills help transform mans life
The positive impact of garden and greenhouse growing has been highlighted in the story of a Kelso man who overcame alcoholism and homelessness.
Former agronomist Alastair Kirkhope turned to drink when he lost his job in 1995, BBC News revealed.
He went on to lose his home and become dependant on alcohol over the next decade.
However, help from a number of charities saw the 56-year-old overcome his addiction and find a home.
Mr Kirkhope was also given a grant to start up his own gardening firm, which has completed the transformation in his life.
"Im working full time at the moment and to be quite honest, I dont have an awful lot to worry about," he told the news provider.
The garden and greenhouse enthusiast added that he is enjoying life and has even gained weight since his time on the streets.
Meanwhile, those looking to indulge their horticultural urges may be interested in attending the upcoming Apple Celebrations at Cumbrias Dalemain Mansion and Gardens, which runs from October 18th.
