800-year-old colleges to open gardens to public
One of the worlds oldest and most prestigious educational institutions plans to allow visitors to view its ancient gardens as part of its 800th anniversary celebrations.
Cambridges colleges will open their grounds to greenhouse growers from September 11th to 13th, with guided tours available to those who so desire.
Among the sights to be seen is the walled gardens of Madingley Hall, where people can take a stroll around its hazel walk, admiring the rose pergola, medicinal border and alpine bed.
The area tended to by the widow of Charles Darwin will be open for viewings in the grounds of Fitzwilliam College.
Meanwhile, Homerton and Newnham will also unveil their botanical delights to visitors during the three-day event, the university revealed.
A number of other sites will be available to visitors, with numerous botanical attractions to enjoy.
In other news, the Royal Horticultural Societys Garden Harlow Carr is set to host the annual Gardeners Question Time party.
Two recordings of the show will take place, where visitors will be able to put their queries to a panel of experts.
