Shed Collection Former Gardeners World presenter Monty Don has noted Brits can take advantage of climate change to grow a Mediterranean garden in the UK.

Writing for the Daily Mail, the expert suggested the hotter, drier weather meant plants that were more capable of handling periods of drought would fare better in the country than in years gone by.

He suggested Mediterranean species used to growing in sandy earth with less moisture could flourish in gardens, even where there is a lack of quality soil.

Giving the example of his own low-maintenance garden at his Hertfordshire home, Don noted such arrangements should not require a lot of work after the initial planting as they are often self-sufficient.

He explained how he crafted such an area after digging up a tarmac yard and filling it in with a thin layer of nutrient rich organic material.

The TV personality has spoken in the past about how activities in the garden and greenhouse have helped him deal with the effects of seasonal affective disorder and a minor stroke.ADNFCR-1495-ID-19318902-ADNFCR
