Glasshouses The Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) is set to host a number of open days at its Garden Wisley in Surrey, it has announced.

Aimed at allowing the gardening organisation to share its knowledge and enthusiasm with other green-fingered growers, the open days will take place throughout the summer.

Gardeners will be able to pick up tips on how to care for a variety of species and the sites trials team will be on hand to explain how it studies plants for between one and three years before deciding whether to give them the Award of Garden Merit.

The title means the specimen is ideally suited for normal outdoor use and is aimed at allowing horticulturalists to make informed decisions about what to grow in their own yard or greenhouse.

A Carnation Open Day is set to take place in June, kicking off a summer of similar events that will look at perennial shrubs, vegetable growing and berry tasting.

The RHS recently announced a partnership with Alan Titchmarsh that will see schools given up to £500 to develop a garden.ADNFCR-1495-ID-19131058-ADNFCR
