Planthouses Children in Bolton are to learn more about growing produce in vegetable plots and greenhouses following the establishment of a new school garden, This is Lancashire reports.

Flowers and vegetables will be grown by the children in the school yard of Castle Hill Primary School after teachers decided it was in need of a makeover.

Ideas were put together by the children and, after help from charity Groundwork, a group of 22 pupils, parents and grandparents are now in a position to plant the first seeds.

According to headteacher Sarah Curley, the scheme is already proving a success.

"This project gives the children the opportunity to learn about where fruit and vegetables come from and nurture them as they grow from seeds into something they can eat," she told the news provider.

"They absolutely loved doing the gardening. I am really pleased weve been able to give them the opportunity to do it."

According to the Royal Horticultural Society, things that gardeners should be doing this month include pruning roses and buying trees and shrubs.ADNFCR-1495-ID-19057995-ADNFCR
