HLF helps garden renovation
The gardeners of London will soon be able to gain an in-depth insight into what a Victorian kitchen garden would have looked like after it was announced that Myddelton House Gardens is set to be renovated.
Lasting two years and costing £487,000, the project will see the Victorian Kitchen Garden created by revered gardener EA Bowles opened to the public for the first time.
According to Horticulture Week, the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) donated the huge sum towards the renovation and its London committee chairman, Wesley Kerr, seemed positive about the investment.
"All great gardens carry the imprint and character of their creator," he said.
"Even though Edward Bowles died half a century ago, the broad outlines and some of the plants from one of Londons most poetic horticultural plantations remain at Myddelton House in a remarkably peaceful and evocative setting.
"The potting shed feels as though Bowles had just stepped out."
Gardeners will be able to visit the site for free and will be able to learn about Bowles as well as pick up tips and inspiration for their own gardens and greenhouses.
According to eabowlessociety.org.uk, the legendary gardener is commemorated in the Bowles Corner at the Royal Horticultural Societys Wisley Garden.
