RHS Greenhouse A Thornaby schools pupils have been rewarded for their efforts in transforming a patch of wasteland into a beautiful garden, according to a report on GazetteLive.co.uk.

The pupils from Christ the King RC Primary School formed a gardening club and set to work on land - work that has landed them a £50 voucher to go towards plants, seeds and tools to use in their new garden.

The Care For Your Area awards scheme was organised by Stockton Council and head teacher Morita Metcalfe explained that the children deserved to have their names on the same winners list.

"We’ve been working on the garden over the past year," she told the website.

"It was a bit of rough land but we cleared the pond and created the garden.

"The gardening club worked on a lot of it, thinking about designs and carrying out the work.

Local councillor Jennie Beaumont explained that all of the competition winners were recognised for the pride they take in their work.

School gardening clubs can be a great way to encourage kids to learn gardening and greenhouse skills in a hands-on environment.ADNFCR-1495-ID-18925956-ADNFCR
