Shed Collection A £20 million government scheme will see Liverpool use gardening and landscaping skills to solve a major transport problem, according to Horticulture Week.

The Hall Lane Strategic Gateway scheme will see the government make compulsory purchases of properties to make way for improvements to the road linking the city to the M62.

As well as improving the road, the area will benefit from significant landscaping and beautification.

"Our city needs first-rate gateways into the centre as a key part of its regeneration," councillor Peter Millea told the online magazine.

"The scheme will help motorists and pedestrians, provide a much better image for visitors and produce a kinder environment for the neighbourhood."

The news follows an increase in gardening activity in the city, which is this years European Capital of Culture.

Gardeners used their greenhouse and horticultural skills to help make the city beautiful for the influx of visitors that came to learn about the culture and history of the area throughout the year.ADNFCR-1495-ID-18880647-ADNFCR
