RHS Greenhouse A fruit expert has been awarded a prize for over three decades of work in the horticulture industry.

Kenneth Tobutt is an expert plant breeder and geneticist who is no stranger to the greenhouse having spent 32 years growing new fruit varieties, according to HortWeek.

He was recently given the annual Fruit Culture Award at the National Fruit Show dinner.

Mr Tobutt has been responsible for the launch of numerous varieties of fruit, including the Black Lace elderberry and the Penny cherry.

According to the website, former master of the Worshipful Company of Fruiterers William Sibley praised him for "developing the science on which the future of the fruit industry depends".

Gardeners can try their hand at growing all sorts of varieties of fruit with the use of a greenhouse, which affords more exotic plants a steady environment in which to develop.

A greenhouse is also a great place to keep more sensitive plants over winter, protecting them from frost and excessive rain.ADNFCR-1495-ID-18838290-ADNFCR
