Schoolboys build public garden
A group of schoolboys from Sheffield have helped to create a wildlife garden in Hillsborough Park in a move likely to inspire others to get to work in the greenhouse or garden.
The Wisewood Secondary pupils spent almost a year working twice a week on the project, designing new paths, planting trees and digging out an old pond, according to South Yorkshire newspaper the Star.
"These were boys who needed to get out of class and get involved in some practical hands-on learning," head teacher Julie Bloor told the paper.
"They rose to the challenge and really enjoyed themselves, clearing the garden area.
"One of the boys is now studying for an NVQ in horticulture so it could result in a career for him."
The boys work is a good example of how gardening can be a rewarding pastime for people of any age.
A greenhouse can help gardeners continue to enjoy their hobby even in poor weather.
