RHS Greenhouse The pub gardens, private lawns, beautiful parks and carefully tended flowerbeds of Enfield have contributed to the town being bestowed a Silver Gilt Award in the London in Bloom awards.

The borough fended off competition to scoop the award following the judges visit in July this year.

The judges noted that the Enfield in Bloom horticultural association and the adopt a flower bed scheme had helped the town to win the coveted prize, according to the Enfield Independent.

The judges also looked for environmentally friendly and sustainable planting techniques.

People of all ages pitched in to help the borough win, but Derek and Margaret Fletcher of Winwood Close, Freezywater, and the Palace Gardens Shopping Centre received special recognition for their efforts.

The London in Bloom charity was set up in 1967 and forms part of the Britain in Bloom scheme that encourages gardeners up and down the country.ADNFCR-1495-ID-18821588-ADNFCR
