Cold Frames Collection A new Roman-style garden has opened in Wales, created by the National Roman Legion Museum in Caerleon.

Estates manager at the National Museum Wales Andrew Dixey said that archaeological remains and research had been used to devise the garden.

"The Romans invaded Britain in 43 AD and brought their garden designs with them," he said.

Gardening techniques such as springtime planting and composting were introduced to the country by the Romans and are still used today.

According to the BBC, Mr Dixey also said that the Romans had equivalents to modern day luxury garden items.

He said that they would have used a triclinium, or outside dining room, where people today would have a gazebo.

National Roman Legion Museum Bethan Lewis said that it was hoped the new garden would boost visitor numbers from their present level of 70,000 a year.ADNFCR-1495-ID-18801460-ADNFCR
