Glasshouses This year marks the 50th anniversary of Garden Organic and the Prince of Wales joined in the celebrations by presenting prizes.

Prince Charles, who is a patron of the charity, presented awards at a young peoples produce show in Ryton-on-Dunsmore.

The Prince seemed pleased by the standards on show and underlined the importance of understanding how food is grown.

"I was hugely impressed by the produce show, where I was so pleased to see some especially fine compost, amongst other things," he said.

"We have to do all we can to reconnect people to the land so that they understand how their food is grown and puts them back in touch with nature."

The compost of which the Prince speaks was produced by 16-year-old Luke Cleaver, who scooped the award for best compost.

Ashleigh Grant, 10, and Naomi Langford, 11, both won awards for best miniature organic gardening and best produce respectively.

Garden Organic was set up to help schools teach pupils about organic produce.ADNFCR-1495-ID-18733179-ADNFCR
