Garden security important this bank holiday
Gardening enthusiasts have been urged to take care of their green spaces over the bank holiday weekend.
Financial services provider Cheshire Building Society explains that people should make sure that they lock away any garden tools and equipment and that garages, sheds, glasshouses and other outbuildings are secured.
Packaging from recent gardening equipment purchases should also be disposed of so that opportunistic burglars are not alerted to the presence of potentially-costly items in the garden.
Karen Torson, partnerships business manager at the firm, comments: "During the summer months there tends to be an increase in the number of garden thefts as people get their gardens into shape."
She adds that opportunistic thieves will try and seize anything that has the potential to be sold on, such as lawn mowers, ornaments, patio furniture and expensive plants and shrubs.
