Glasshouses The Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) Chelsea Flower Show saw a group of part-time amateur gardeners put the professionals in the shade, it has been reported.

A team made up of an industrial chemist, a retired company director and a crisp factory worker were among the members of the team which walked away with the Presidents Award for the best floral display in the floral pavilion.

Featuring some of the smallest blooms at the event, the Alpine Garden Societys display was created through the hard work of around a dozen green-fingered enthusiasts.

"Were really pleased all these volunteers have done it as a labour of love. We are thrilled to get the Presidents Award," Christine McGregor, the Alpine Garden Societys director, tells the Times.

A garden designed for Laurent Perrier by Tom Stuart-Smith - which gives the illusion of flowers floating in the air - received the title of Best in Show at the event.ADNFCR-1495-ID-18604223-ADNFCR
